Ever fought a 6.4 mm band into an upper five and watched it ride up onto the marginal ridge? Band height is not a detail – too tall and it lifts out of the sulcus and distorts the contour you are trying to build. The SwissMat™ premolar band is 5 mm high in 0.04 mm stainless steel, which is the size that sits where a premolar actually needs it.

› Burnish before you fill. PD's sequence puts burnishing with a ball burnisher or tweezers between placing the ring and restoring the cavity.
› Rubber dam is mandatory with this system – PD's warning is about ingestion and aspiration of small, sharp components, and a band is exactly that.
› Height, not width. The 0.04 mm figure is the foil thickness, not a dimension of the band face.

Premolar or molar band on a first premolar?
Height should follow the tooth, not the arch position. If the marginal ridge is low and the box is shallow, 5 mm is the one that stays put.

Do they fit other ring systems?
PD publish no compatibility statement either way, so we make no claim. Within SwissMat they are designed to work with the SwissMat ring and tines.
