The step most file sequences leave out.

Most hand-file ranges go 10, then 15. MANI put a 12 in between, which is the difference between easing a canal open and levering at it.

What MANI’s own tests show

› Stiffer than a K-file. In MANI’s bending test the D-Finder took more force to bend than a conventional K-file at #08 and #10 – roughly half as much again at #10.
› Harder to break. MANI state that in their ductility test "D Finders are 1.5 times more resistant to fracture than other path finding files".
› Resists buckling. MANI’s internal buckling test shows a higher maximum load than conventional K-files at #08, #10 and #15.

Questions

Why does MANI include a 12?
Most ranges step 08, 10, 15. The 12 is a half step, and in a canal that is gripping the 10 it is the difference between gaining diameter gradually and forcing the next full size.

How does MANI say to use them?
As a reamer: rotary cuts of a quarter to a third of a turn – MANI's own instruction, and the motion the flutes are cut for.
