Kohler’s MTA delivery and carving instrument, designed by Dr. Edward S. Lee. The two working ends are physically lettered – D for delivery, C for carving – so there is no working out which end you are holding under magnification.

What Kohler say it does

›  MTA delivery / carver instrument to slide out the formed MTA pellet from the MTA block and insert it into the root-end preparation.

›  The delivery end of the instruments are marked with the letter “D” for delivery, and the letter “C” to carve away and smoothen the excess MTA.

›  The instruments are ENDOBLACK coated for reduced reflection for work under the operating microscope light.

It works with the MTA block

The D end is shaped to lift a pellet that has already been formed, which means it is designed around the MTA block. Buying the two together is usually cheaper as the PENN Endo MTA Set.

Why the coating

Root-end work happens under the scope with a bright coaxial light. Kohler rate a mirror finish as giving an “extreme dazzling effect”, and the ENDOBLACK coating as the point where “reflection is reduced considerably.” They also claim approx. 1000–1300 HV hardness and friction “in average 7 times lower compared with Titanium and Stainless Steel.”
