The MTA+ Applicator is Cerkamed's single-ended placer for mixed MTA: a stainless steel handle with a ring for the finger, a fine plunger, and a 0.8 mm tip that picks up a measured dose and pushes it out where the repair is. Cerkamed's description: "Reusable dental tools for handling and application of prepared measure of MTA+ material." Two diameters; this is the 0.8 mm.

Reprocessing, as Cerkamed set it out

›  Cerkamed: "The packaged instruments are non–sterile. Before sterilisation, these new instruments should be washed thoroughly with warm water and using detergent. Before each use these dental instruments must be sterilised."

›  Cerkamed: "Before use protect the instrument against contamination or damage of the material structure (cracks, bends, fractures, peeling, etc.)."

›  Clear the barrel before the MTA sets in it – Cerkamed give 6 minutes from mixing on the MTA+ page, and the plunger is the only way through a set plug.

›  Cerkamed mark the product "TO BE USED BY DENTIST ONLY".

0.8 mm or 1.2 mm?

The canal or the cavity decides. 0.8 mm goes down a shaped canal for an apical plug or a lateral perforation; 1.2 mm carries more for a furcation floor, a pulpotomy or a retrograde cavity. Many operators keep both. This page is the 0.8 mm; the other is here.

Applicator or carrier?

This is a placer: it picks up a plug of one diameter and delivers it. The Vista Apex MTA carriers are spring-loaded carriers with a longer reach, and the Tools for MTA (MX1–MX4) carry and condense from a dosing block. They are companions rather than substitutes.
