The other side of the mouth needs the other instrument. The KiS® 6D is the mirror image of the KiS® 4D – Obtura Spartan's own description – for the lingual root of the mandibular right molar and the distobuccal of the maxillary left molar. Double angled at 110°, 0.5mm across, 3.0mm cutting surface, diamond coated. This is the EMS version: the same instrument cut with the M3 x 0.5 thread, which fits an EMS-threaded scaler.

Supplied non-sterile. Reprocessing is validated to ISO 17664-1 and ISO 17665-1: pre-clean in a pH-neutral ultrasonic solution, dry, then prevacuum steam at 132°C for 4 minutes.

Asked before buying

Will it fit my ultrasonic unit? Obtura Spartan make the range for scalers using M3 x 0.6 threading, and offer every tip again as the E series with M3 x 0.5. This one is M3 x 0.5. Check your unit's manual first – they warn that forcing a tip with the wrong thread damages the device. The tip wrench seats it properly.

How long does a tip last? Obtura Spartan state the tips were tested to 250 reprocessing cycles to ISO 18397 without loss of performance or corrosion – but end of life is set by wear in use as well, so inspect each tip during cleaning and retire damaged ones. They also ask for very light pressure: small-diameter tips are subject to breakage at any time.

Do I need the matching tip for the other side? The KiS® 6D EMS and its mirror image are a pair – Obtura Spartan design each for named roots on one side of the arch. Practices doing routine apical surgery usually hold both.
