A bright steel ruler under a headlamp is a mirror.

Put a polished ruler under magnification with a headlamp behind it and the thing you are trying to read is reflecting light back at you. Jordco’s answer is a black finish with laser-etched markings – in their words, the reduced glare black colour reduces head lamp glare while operating with surgical telescopes. In loupes, that is not cosmetic.

Do I need the EndoRing to use it?
No – Jordco say it works independently of the EndoRing® and it comes with its own rings. If you run an EndoRing, the reduced-glare ruler is also available as part of that kit.

Can I change the finger ring later?
No – and this is the one thing to get right on ordering. Three sizes are supplied, but once a ring is pressed into the channel Jordco say it is permanently attached and not to attempt removal. Size it to your index finger first.

With or without stop locks?
Jordco make both. This is the with version, and the IFU explains the point of them: used with rubber stops, the locks on the ruler let you increase or decrease the instrument’s working length.

Can it be autoclaved?
Yes, and Jordco publish the cycles: pouched, 121°C for 30 minutes in a gravity displacement autoclave or 132°C for 4 minutes pre-vacuum, never above 135°C. Preclean ultrasonically with an enzymatic detergent only – no Surgical Milk, cold sterilising solutions or instrument dips. Ask us for the IFU.
