A cotton pledget in ordinary tweezers gives up its coolant almost as fast as you can get it to the tooth – and gives up entirely somewhere around the second molar. Jordco built the e-Dx® around an open-cell foam tip that holds dental coolant longer, on a detachable contra-angled plier that reaches the back of the mouth and still lets you see what you are doing. Their summary is the plain one: the instrument can easily cold and fracture test teeth. The FracTester™ for the second of those is built in.

Three handles, 36 pliers and 36 foam tips – so roughly 36 tests, with the handles carrying on.
Does it come with coolant?
No, the refrigerant is bought separately – Cerkamed Pulp Spray is the one in our range. It is an ice spray; the open-cell foam is built to hold one longer than a cotton pledget would.
Anything to watch in use?
Two things straight from Jordco’s instructions: always apply a rubber dam before use, and apply the chilled foam to tooth structure only – they warn that contact with soft tissue can cause damage. Spray the coolant onto the foam at a safe distance from the patient.
